What UAE government AI training in 2026 changes for a corporate academy
2026-09-22 · 7 min
In 2026 the UAE moved AI training from a specialist course to an operating-model target: a seventh national cohort focused on agentic AI, and a Cabinet programme to train 80,000 federal employees. A corporate academy should copy the discipline — a named population, a capstone, and a service that will change — not the headcount.
Corporate academies in the UAE no longer need a generic “AI is coming” slide. In 2026 the government published the shape of the training it expects: who is in the room, what they build, and which operating model should change.
The announcements, dated
On 29 January 2026, Emirates News Agency reported that the National Experts Programme opened applications for an artificial-intelligence track, NEP-AI. It is aligned to the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031. The first cohort was announced to run from May 2026 through December 2026. Participants work across six tracks — from infrastructure and models to product, sovereign capability, human–AI leadership, and applied domains — and each delivers a capstone aimed at a sector outcome. The official programme page adds governance, ethics, and data readiness to that design.
On 23 August 2026, WAM reported that registration had opened for the seventh cohort of the national Artificial Intelligence Program, running September 2026 to January 2027, delivered with the University of Birmingham Dubai. This cohort widens the focus to agentic AI, alongside generative AI, for both a technical track and a professional track.
Separately, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources describes a Cabinet-approved programme to train 80,000 federal employees as agentic-AI practitioners, and a leadership target to shift 50% of government services and operations to agentic-AI operating models. FAHR’s partnership with Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence is the delivery vehicle it names: hands-on learning for leaders and specialists, including responsible adoption.
What a corporate academy should copy
Copy the design rules, not the national number.
- Separate the rooms. NEP-AI is for people who will lead AI work. The seventh cohort splits developers from professionals. A single “AI for everyone” course hides that difference.
- Require a build. A capstone tied to a real service is evidence. A completion certificate is activity.
- Name the operating change. “Agentic” means a system that takes steps, not a chatbot that answers. If nothing in the process changes, the training has no outcome yet.
- Put governance next to the skill. Who is accountable when the agent acts, and where the data sits, belong in the same brief as the curriculum.
An awards entry that says “we followed the national direction” still has to show the population, the capstone, and the service that moved.

Questions this piece answers
What did the UAE announce in 2026?
In January 2026 the National Experts Programme opened an AI track (NEP-AI), with a first cohort announced for May to December 2026. In August 2026 registration opened for a seventh national AI cohort, running September 2026 to January 2027, with an expanded focus on agentic AI.
Where does the figure of 80,000 come from?
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources describes a Cabinet-approved programme to train 80,000 federal employees as agentic-AI practitioners, alongside a target to move 50% of government services and operations to agentic-AI operating models. It is a federal figure, not a private-sector benchmark.
What should a company copy?
A named audience, a hands-on build, and a process that will change. Not the national headcount.
